About

Alley Cat Theater is a direct result of my participation in Boston Public Works Theater Company, a playwright-centric theater I founded with another playwright in Boston in 2013. Boston Public Works was composed of playwrights who, as entrepreneurs, circumvented the traditional route to production by producing one play each. When the project ended in July 2017, we disbanded and everyone has moved on. For me, Alley Cat Theater is that next artistic endeavor.
Just like Boston Public Works, Alley Cat Theater puts the responsibility for all of the theatrical, artistic merit of a production in the hands of the playwright. Alley Cat Theater is the next logical, artistic step for me, from taking control of my artistic career by producing my own and other people's plays to starting an entire theater founded on my artistic sensibilities. Alley Cat Theater is a place to produce my own and like-minded playwrights' work.
By the way, the name comes from combining the names of my two daughters, Allison and Kathryn.
Alley Cat Theater is committed to hiring theater artists including actors, directors, dramaturgs, and designers regardless of their gender, ethnicity, age, religion, or sexual orientation. --John Greiner-Ferris, Founding Artistic Director
